🇵🇪 Good news: Peruvian passports are accepted by Revolut and Wise in Spain. No NIE required. Open an account today from your phone in under 15 minutes.

Venezuelan migrant in Spain for 8 years. I personally use Revolut and Wise as my primary accounts in Spain. I have tested over 15 banks — including BBVA, Santander and CaixaBank, which all rejected me without NIE.

This guide is based on official bank documentation. We have not personally tested the process with a Peruvian passport. If you are Peruvian and have opened Revolut, Wise or N26 in Spain, please share your experience at contact@ibrahingil.com — we’ll add it to this guide and credit you.
📋 In this guide
More than 430,000 Peruvians live in Spain — one of the largest migrant communities in the country. Opening a bank account is one of the first practical steps when you arrive. Without a NIE, traditional banks will almost certainly reject you. Revolut and Wise accept Peruvian passports in Spain with no NIE, no padrón and no rental contract required.
Quick summary — which bank for you?
| Bank | NIE required? | IBAN type | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revolut | ✓ No NIE | Spanish (ES87) | Salary, bills, everyday use |
| Wise | ✓ No NIE | Belgian (BE97) | Sending money to Peruvian |
| N26 | ✗ Requires NIE | Spanish (ES20) | After you get your NIE |
| BBVA / Santander | ✗ Requires NIE | Spanish | Not recommended without NIE |
My recommendation: Open Revolut first (Spanish IBAN, free, 15 minutes). Add Wise if you regularly send money back to Peruvian.
Why traditional Spanish banks won’t work
BBVA, Santander, CaixaBank and most traditional Spanish banks require a NIE to open a resident account. They offer non-resident accounts but these require a «certificado de no residente» (issued by the police), carry higher fees and take weeks to process. Neobanks are the practical alternative: fully digital, regulated, and open in minutes with just your Peruvian passport.

Wise with a Peruvian passport — step by step
✓ Peruvian passports accepted. Wise accepts Peruvian passports with no restrictions.
Wise is useful for sending money from Spain to Peruvian at mid-market exchange rates. However, Wise gives you a Belgian IBAN (BE97) — not Spanish — so most Spanish employers will reject it for salary payments. Use Revolut for salary, Wise for transfers home.
Create your Wise account
Go to wise.com or download the app. Click Register and select personal account.
Enter your details
Enter your full name, date of birth and a Spanish address. Select Peruvian as your nationality.
Verify your identity
Upload your Peruvian passport and take a selfie. Wise may also ask for proof of address.
Account active
Once verified, your BE97 Belgian IBAN is ready for international transfers.
⚠️ Wise IBAN is Belgian — not accepted for Spanish salary
Your Wise IBAN starts with BE97. Many Spanish employers only accept ES IBANs for payroll. Use Revolut’s ES87 for salary and Wise for sending money to Peruvian.

N26 — requires NIE since 2026
N26 gives you a Spanish IBAN (ES20) but requires NIE since 2026. Once you have your NIE, it’s worth considering — no padrón or rental contract needed, just NIE plus passport.

Receiving your salary in Spain
For receiving your salary in Spain, use Revolut (ES87). It works with all Spanish payroll systems. Use Wise only for sending money to Peruvian.
Important: Social Security warning
⚠️ Revolut and Wise are NOT on Spain’s Social Security bank list (TGSS)
Revolut, Wise and N26 are not on Spain’s TGSS collaborating bank list. You cannot receive paro (unemployment benefits) or make autónomo Social Security contributions from these accounts. For Social Security you need a traditional Spanish bank or EVO Banco — the only neobank on the TGSS list.
