Privacy and data

Privacy policy

What data is processed when you visit this site or write to me, what for and with whom.

Reviewed on 10 October 2026

This is a translation. In case of any discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails.

Who is behind this.

The data controller is Ibrahin Alexander Gil Moran, an individual resident in Spain and owner of ibrahingil.com. For any question or request about privacy: contacto@ibrahingil.com.

When you visit the site.

The site is hosted by IONOS (IONOS Cloud S.L.U., Spain). To deliver each page, your browser connects to its servers, which necessarily process your IP address and technical details of the connection: which page you request, when, and with which browser. That data is also used by Wordfence, a firewall that runs inside the site itself, to stop attacks.

IONOS acts as a data processor, under its data processing agreement.

To know how many people read each page and which site they come from (for example, from Threads), I use Koko Analytics, a program that runs inside the site itself: it sets no cookies, loads nothing from other companies and the data never leaves the server. To avoid counting the same person twice on the same day, it computes a code from your IP address, your browser and a key that changes every day. Your IP address is not stored, and that code is deleted at midnight together with the key. What remains are only overall figures, such as visits per page and per referring site, which do not reveal who you are.

The legal basis is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in keeping the site working and protected, and in knowing which content is read.

What is stored in your own browser.

The site sets a single cookie, pll_language, which remembers whether you read in Spanish or English. It lasts one year and stores only the language. There are no third-party cookies and no advertising, and the site does not load code from other companies.

One small exception: if you tap “like” on an article, your browser remembers it so it appears marked next time. That stays on your device, is not sent anywhere, and you can delete it from your browser settings.

If you write to me.

You can use the contact form or write directly to contacto@ibrahingil.com.

  • What data: with the form, your name, your email address, the topic you choose and your message. By email, whatever you decide to include.
  • How it travels: the form is received by the site itself, hosted by IONOS, which sends it on to my mailbox. Email is also handled by IONOS (IONOS Cloud S.L.U., Spain), as data processor under its data processing agreement.
  • What for: to reply to you and deal with what you ask: correcting a piece of content, considering a proposal, fixing a problem or handling a privacy request.
  • Legal basis: legitimate interest in dealing with the enquiries I receive (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you write about a collaboration, taking steps at your request prior to entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b)).
  • How long: for as long as needed to deal with the matter and, at most, 12 months after it is closed, unless a law requires it to be kept longer.

If you subscribe to The letter.

At the end of every guide there is a form to subscribe to The letter, the weekly email. Subscribing is voluntary: the whole site can be read without giving any address.

One thing is asked, your email address, and it is used for one thing: sending you the letter. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

There is email confirmation: when you submit the form you receive a message with a link, and you are not subscribed until you click it. That way nobody can add your address without your knowing.

You can unsubscribe whenever you want using the link at the bottom of every email, or by writing to contacto@ibrahingil.com. Sending stops immediately and your address is deleted.

Delivery is handled by Kit (Kit.com, Inc., United States), as data processor. Your address travels to its servers; that international transfer is covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, under which Kit is certified, and by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses included in its contract. Kit records whether you open the emails and whether you click their links; that is used only to know whether the letter is useful and to stop writing to people who no longer read it.

The subscription form is plain HTML and the site does not load any code from Kit, so Kit cannot set cookies or track you while you browse here. It only receives what you type and send.

There is no advertising in the letter and your address is never sold or passed to anyone.

Some guides carry paid links to Amazon, marked as such. Following one takes you off this site, and it is Amazon that applies its own cookies, under its own policy, to know the visit came from here. Nothing is set here and I do not know what you buy. It is explained in Affiliate disclosure.

Who your data is shared with.

Only with the processors named above (IONOS and Kit), and only for what is explained here. Data is never sold or passed to anyone. Kit is in the United States, and your data travels there with the safeguards described.

No profiling, automated decision-making, personalised advertising or behavioural analysis is carried out.

Your rights.

You can request access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing and portability of your data, as applicable. Write to contacto@ibrahingil.com stating what you are requesting. You may also complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es).

Children.

The site is not aimed at children under 14 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age.

Changes.

This policy will be updated if any service changes or measurement is added. The date at the top shows the latest review.
